Furniture and Wood Objects

The Department of Furniture and Wood Objects provides in-lab and on-site services for the conservation of a wide range of furniture, art objects, historical artifacts and frames.  Typical objects include varnished, painted, gilded and upholstered furniture and woodwork; indoor and outdoor sculpture and signs; toys, treen and related items. Picture frame services include the identification of original frames, structural and cosmetic conservation/restoration, fabrication of some reproduction frames and sealed microclimate enclosures for travel and exhibition. Many projects are coordinated with other departments for their specialized skills. The department offers on-site surveys and services, including treatment of pest-infected objects with nitrogen-induced anoxia.
